Avatamsaka Sutra

A gorgeous large sized thangka of Chenrezig done by the group of four artists who I have quite a few for sale by. As far as quality of artwork, they are the best! The last of the four artists to work on each of these paintings does only the faces. The most experienced artist always does the face. This one also has secondary figures of Manjusri and Mahakala, which is why this one is more expensive than others by these artists of the same size with only one figure.

Measures about 19 & 3/4 inches by 27 & 3/4 inches, excluding the outermost brown borders.

Please compare my detailed thangka photos to other thangkas available on eBay to determine the quality. Don't bother to compare them to the extremely low quality glut of fake "antique" or "old" "Tibetan" thangkas from China that have flooded the market in the last few years. T IS no comparison with these fakes that are as iconographically as incorrect as you can possibly find! I haven't seen a genuine antique Tibetan thangka on ebay in MANY years. Not only has China 's brutal regime been systematically eliminating Tibet 's culture and religion in Tibet , they are ruining the art of thangka painting w it is barely hanging on in exile in Nepal and India .

I strive to provide the best quality thangkas for the price on eBay. They are all original paintings done with mineral pigments and pure gold paint on canvas. You won't find any imitation Chinese thangkas ! If t is any kind of problem, let me know. I will never knowingly misrepresent anything I am selling. T is always the chance that I may have been fooled myself, but will try to correct the situation if that ever happens. Please contact me if you think I have been misled. I also don't try to exaggerate the colors or contrast in my photos to make them more appealing. Chenrezig is the tutelary deity of Tibet . Sometimes called "Six-syllabled Lokeshvara", his six-syllabled mantra, OM MANI PADME HUNG has become so popular that it has become a household mantra for every Buddhist in the Mahayana tradition. It is said that the fully enlightened mind has three great qualities: great compassion, wisdom, and the skillful means to benefit all sentient beings. The great compassion is the attitude that all the sentient beings be freed from every form of suffering, pain, and dissatisfaction. Such great compassion and an altruistic attitude which strives toward complete enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings is symbolized by Chenrezig (or four-armed Avalokitesvara).

The author Thangtong Gyalpo describes him thus: Upon a white lotus and moon seat, the syllable HRIH arises. The letter then transforms into four armed Avalokitesvara. He has a white translucent body that radiates five colored lights. He has a smiling expression and gazes upon us with compassionate eyes. He has four hands, the first two pressed together at his heart and the other two holding a crystal rosary and a white lotus. He is adorned with silks and jeweled ornaments and wears an upper garment of an antelope skin.
