Seeing stars! This pretty quilt is sooo huge I could not get a good picture of it hanging and the piecing of the border is just so beautifully done! The quilt has a traditional flower garden design but ever flower has a ring of white hexagons around it and then green hexagon pieced in a trianglular frame to make a 6 point star around each flower. Every hexagon is pieced by hand. Two sides of the border are formed by white hexagons with green insert flowers. The other two side have green stacked hexagons with two alternating white hexagons--complicated to explain but the photos will make it clear-- Its really a visual treat! The fabrics are 40's cottons, The green backing is a beautifully aged deep Nile green and the batting is thin cotton. The backing is brought to the front and folded for a thin binding, looks like the maker had a little trouble on the curve pieces. The green binding doesn't quite cover the indents and t is some hand stitching on these spots to reinforce the area. It measures 80" x 94". Easily will top a queen bed. Each hexagon piece is 2" wide and hand quilted in the ditch. T are a few faint spots but I don't find that detrimental to such a striking quilt! The only real drawback is t is some wear along the edges and I have pictured the worst, pretty much just nibbles starting. The quilt appears to have been stored for some time and probably could use a pressing but it does lie flat and the batting is nice and flat. Very nice quilt in a hard to find pattern!
