CIRCA 1829 - 1909 WS & S WILHELM SCHILLER AND SONS MAJOLICA POTTERY VASE / BASKET. VERY DETAILED. IN GOOD CONDITION. THIS PIECE HAS WHAT LOOKS LIKE CHERUB FACES ON IT AND BELOW THE HANDLES A DEMONIC/RAM FACE. IT IS TRULY SPECTACULAR. A few rough spots on piece when you handle the pottery, barely detectable. additional photos available if requested. The piece is in very good condition, No restorations. These chips do not hurt the value as most majolica pieces from this era show some use or damage. Please note this piece is heavy and therefore shipping will have to be a little more. ----------------------------------------------- HISTORY In 1829, Wilhelm Schiller started a pottery with Freidrich Gerbing in Bodenbach. It produced very high quality terra cotta and majolica pieces. Vases, clock cases, jardinières and wall plaques were very popular, often in Classical and Renaissance motifs. This relationship lasted until 1885 when Gerbing and Stephen became an entity, and Schiller and his son went out on their own. By 1909, both companies had closed their doors. Market tastes had shifted away from Nouveau and Traditional styles to Arts & Crafts and the beginning of Art Deco.
