Offering this rare copy of Emily Bronte's immortal love story of Heathcliff and Cathy in Wuthering Heights. Published by Oxford University Press, London, England, no publish date, but early 1900's; with a preface and memoir of Emily and Anne Bronte by Charlotte Bronte. Hardboards appear to possibly be dark blue leather over woven cloth, gold gilt lettering on spine, decorative impressed design on front cover. Good++ condition, no spine cracks or stains, minimal corner and spine edge rubs. Pages have slight toning but crisp and clean, no tears, foxing, stains, or scribbling. Previous owner's name on first blank page. There is a fold out genealogy of the Earnshaws, Lintons, and Heathcliffs in the book and it retains its original ribbon marker. When Emily first published her story of Wuthering Heights, most critics of the time felt it was an inferior work to Charlotte's Jane Eyre - how little they knew that it would go on to become such a well known story! Wuthering Heights stands alone in fiction. It is like no other novel, it is so unlike any other novel, that even Charlotte Bronte missed its greatness, when writing a preface for it in 1850, which supposed it was a book to be apologized for. It is a haunting story of love that went beyond the bounderies of this world into the next. In the many years I have collected and offered books for sale, this is a rare edition, hardly ever seen. A must have for your collection! More photos are available via email.
