WW II Leather USAAF Squadron pocket patch. 100% guaranteed authentic period piece. Incised leather with a painted design of Disney's Donald Duck, obviously mad or defiant at something. Patch has no damage, no cracks, no tears, no holes (except from w it was sewn). Pristine, but used condition. Patch measures 5 3/8 inches in diameter. Does not glow under blacklight. Story goes like this...the old story of someone who purchased a foot locker at an estate sale in Texas some years back. Inside that foot locker was a folder packed with old papers and some old leather patches. That person then listed said items on eBay under "Disney Collectibles". That's w I found and bought it, not knowing exactly what I was getting except for two leather squadron pocket patches. Once I received the items, I went through everything and started doing some research. The papers were USAAF flight logs, pilot testing and certification documents, promotion letters, assignment detail letters, and photos of the airman in uniform with his wife at home, and pictures of him beside his plane...a P-51 Mustang. Some really amazing stuff in awesome shape. Doing more research, I did an internet search on the pilot himself...and that's when I realized what I had just bought was worth a lot more than I paid. The pilot, Capt. Samuel J. Brown was a WW II USAAF Ace with 15 confirmed kills. He flew P-47's and P-51's, first with the 12th Air Force and then later with the 15th Air Force. He survived the war and is one of the top AAF Aces (number 4 in the Mediterranean Theatre of Operations (MTO) if I remember correctly). The two patches in the folder I obtained were a 31st Fighter Group (his unit) and this patch. I don't know the identification of this patch but I would assume it is some kind of fighter support squadron stationed in the MTO. I'm in no hurry or need to sell this patch, but since I am narrowing down my collecting to WW II shoulder patches only, this doesn't quite fit in my arena. I am offering a very unique opportunity to own a real piece of U.S.A.A.F. history. This patch is in really great shape. Stitch holes from being sewn to an A-2 jacket are still visible, as are the threads that held it in place. I have set a respectable reserve to protect my investment but also to place the value w it is due. After all, it's a WW II Disney design leather squadron patch in great shape...and it came from an ace! When will you ever get another chance at a piece like this? Iâe(tm)m selling off some patches from my 30+ year old collection. Please see my other listings. Returns happily refunded if item is not what is stated. 7 day return policy. Payment due in 5 days. Checks held until they clear. Money Order and PayPal ship right away. Shipping cost (combinable for multiple purchases) - $4.60 US Priority Mail Only. Insurance Mandatory! Sorry, US bidders only.
