is a fine example of a somewhat rare, early WW II era shortwave receiver. This is a Hammarlund RGB made for the US Navy. Contract date is June 14th, 1941. Serial # on this one is 342. I guess that puts this in the "I think we're going to war"! category. This radio is the ancestor of the famous Hammarlund HQ 120 series. This particular radio has absolutely beautiful cosmetics. The face is pristine, as are the knobs. The dials are A+. This is not always the case with these early Hammarlunds. They are made of some type of celluloid plastic that is known to lose its' letters, if not completely disintegrate. Inside the radio is virtually all original. Above deck cosmetics are fine. Under chassis is w we get to the virtually part. The electrolytics have been replaced with modern units. One of the original electros was physically "leaky" and t was a substantial amount of black stuff in the chassis rear. We cleaned this out. The case has been cleaned and repainted the correct black wrinkle. So, overall, this is a beautiful looking radio that is also very clean inside and works essentially as new. If you want one of these type sets for your military collection or hamshack don't pass on this one! You'd be hard put to find a better one. Fair starting bid and no reserve on this hard to find radio. Check out are other auctions for more cool military
