This propeller is from a AVRO 504A and from the earliest days of the war. The propeller was in great shape when located by a antiques dealer in the UK, but the lacquered finish was flaking. The prop was repolished and the original cloth tips touched up with the correct color. It is a museum quality artifact but retains its character with a small number of bumps and bruises. The AVRO 504 & 504A was built in 1913 and served the front lines in France until December 1914. It is one of the earliest aircraft to assume a military role and predates classifications of fighter, bomber and ground support. In fact this very plane did all of these duties in the first days of the war. This fact makes this early prop very rare and a worthwhile addition to any WW1 collection. The planes ultimate success was is stability in flight and as the 504K served as a trainer beyond the end of the war. It is rare to find a prop from this version of an early aviation pioneer and warrior. Markings- Hub face - 11, Y80, 80HP GNOME, TYPE 504 & 504K, 4X AID Side of hub - G52 N84 2744 DIA 1829 PITCH
