This is a World War I Bavarian War Merit Cross with Swords 3 rd Class in case of issue. This was awarded for combat merit to Bavarian soldiers serving in the German Army. It comes with the white, blue and black striped ribbon. On the obverse center is a raised "L" for "Ludwig" and on the reverse is the Bavarian lion and the date "1866". As indicated by the maker's mark inside the lid of the case, this was made by Jacob Leser in Straubling and contains the Bavarian coat of arms. The abbreviated name of the award is in silver lettering on the lid of the case. Overall condition of the medal and ribbon is excellent and the case is in good condition considering the age.
