WW1 Kit Bag Clasp with Handmade 'Secure' Brass Padlock, with key. Rather nice brass padlock, stamped on front with ' Secure' and 'anchor' 30 mm deep excluding clasp. Probably dates from 1900 to 1914. Comes with brass kit bag clasp. This belonged to a gentleman who was in the RAOC and whose brothers were killed in action in the 1914/18 war. His mother then wrote to the War Office asking for his release as he was the only one left and this was then arranged. A bit like saving Private Ryan. He later went on to work with various nuclear physicists including Rutherford, Laidlaw and Kapitza, on the atom bomb so all was not in vain.
