This is a museum-quality reproduction of the British 1903 Pattern infantry mess tin cover. It was made of 10-ounce khaki canvas by historian/collector Jay C. Richards using a British pre-WW1 Jones' handcrank sewing machine. Stress points were handstitched with genuine WW1 #8 khaki gimp thread or vintage military tan cotton thread. The cover is made for the British and Commonwealth Forces D-shaped mess tin. The cover has two canvas belt loops to carry the mess tin in back of the soldier while wearing the P1903 Bandolier Equipment. The cover flap is secured by a pewter button. This style mess tin cover was superceded by the 1908 Pattern cover but was still in use in WW1. This mess tin cover variation will help complete your collection or round out your reenactment kit.
