I bought this helmet an a country auction in the North East of Ireland. It was very dirty and covered with surface rust when I bought it and I've lightly rubbed the outside of the helmet with an oily cloth to remove the worst of the dirt. Thats all the cleaning I've done to the helmet. Its a 100% original helmet and more then likely a "bring back" piece by a soldier from one of the Irish Regiments of the British Army. One of the retaining lugs is missing from the rear of the helmet, the chin strap is delicate and the pouches from the lining are missing but its not in that bad a shape, the metal shell is not holed or weakened from rust. Its in the sort of shape you'd expect something to be in, that has been in an attic or shed for over 80 years. I don't know how rare these helmets are and I'll start the auction for what I paid for the helmet. If you've any questions please let me know. Thanks for looking.
