Four letters sent from French trench's and hospital in WW1 From Private A W Capon 51891 to his Mum & Dad at home in Kent. All letters have been transcribed. Some parts as follows. 7th Sept 1918Dear mum I'm afraid that future letters will won't be quite so interesting as they are getting more strict on what we say.I am writing this letter on a German writing pad and have enclosed a German field card, a little keepsake. Got it of a dead one in our trench. 20th Sept 1918 I'm leaving hospital tomorrow but what I mean to say is it's to late, I think to ask the doctor for a certificate for the clubs. I'm afraid I have lost a lot of my nerve to what I used to have. I jump at any little thing in the dark, and often have horrible dreams of the front line. 4th Nov 1918 Dear mum I had one of my old pals killed ,he died in hospital of his wounds. We were both h-nats in our company. It don't matter who ever I make a chum of he is sure to be killed. After checking his (small) service record on today I believe that Alfred Weir Capon joined the army in1917 and served in the Bedfordshire reg. He was posted to France on the 6/4/1918. He transferred to the Lincolnshire reg and finished the war in the labour corp. He transferred to "Z" class reserve in 31/3/1920. He seem to had a few reg numbers. Some great letter with some interesting WW1 History
