This offer comprises TWO mounted prints each sized 10"x8" (254mm x 203mm) to edge of mount. NB: The descriptions of equipment, persons, places, artists etc are made in good faith within my limited resources . Feel free to correct me. Print ref W145A2 A scene during the fight in Oppy Wood in 1917: British soldiers are working their way along the trenches in the hollows leading to the wood German trenches and throwing bombs to clear the enemy as they go. Note the man carrying a Lewis machine gun and the bayonet man waiting to finish off any survivors. Print ref W146A2 Pressing the German retreat : British dismounted cavalry firing and dispersing a German rearguard of Uhlans (lancers). Note reserve ammunition bandolier around horse's neck and horseholder - every fifth man would hold horses enabling his comrades to do the fighting without losing mounts frightened by the noise etc. The Capture of Oppy Wood took place at the end of the Battle of Arras and Oppy Wood was a heavily fortified position overlooking British positions. After previous attempts, the Wood was finally taken on 28th June 1917 by 15th & 94th Brigades (including 11th Battalion East Lancashire Regiment - 'the Accrington Pals').
