an original WW1 vintage order of the red triangle medal , complete as awarded on its ribbon and sewn in blackened safety pin # small enamelled medal measuring approx 2cm across [ this was the only size awarded ] silver wash on brass with black and red enamel with " YMCA" through the centre of a red triangle and edge reading " THE ORDER OF THE RED TRIANGLE " black silk ribbon 2cm wide and 3,4cm long complete as awarded by the Young Mens Christian Assocation during the first war of 1914-1919 more commonly awarded to members providing hot drinks and services to the front line soldiers ..........................................................................A road side canteen provided by the YMCA, near Wytschaete on 11 August 1917. Although fighting was going on a little to the north in the Third Battle of Ypres, the Messines-Wytschaete Ridge area was at this time relatively quiet. The men on the left and right are two orderlies and two officers of the Australian Medical Corps. Many such small centres located close to Casualty Clearing Stations and dressing stations were in operation at this time The Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) Within ten days of the declaration of war, the YMCA had established no fewer than 250 recreation centres in the United Kingdom, providing a cup of tea, sandwiches or other refreshments,
