A great souvenir of the second World War, a must for collectors of historic items or fans of air craft -airplanes or military items ---- WW2 trench art, for some reason , is scarcer than WW1 items -- , but then the G.I.s of WWII had a much better array of interesting things to send home ! 'tench art ' can be classified as , just about any Decorated objet d'art that was made out of a battle field found object , mostly brass shell casings - that were embellished by soldiers or artisans from the period , antique original world war two historic artillery shell - A war prize souvenir a true war trophy ! -- an empty BRASS u.s. 37 mm shell case , about 5.5 INCHES TALL ,.....engraved with the words "DEFINATELY SHOT DOWN A JU186 SEPT 3 1943 OVER SICILY " , after extensive research i discovered that during Germany's evacuation of Sicily ,.... in late Aug - early Sept, 1943 , over 50 of the LUFTWAFFE 's aircraft were shot down, by allied ground forces , { with 599 German airmen killed and 40 wounded. ... } this very artillery shell was responsible for the downing of one of those German airplanes ! a unique and historical collectable -- ,..................further research reveled that the junkers JU 186 was Development during 1942 and was based on the Ju86R. ------------ the ju 186 was designed to be a high altitude aircraft , said to be
