's a pretty rare item of WW2 British military gear; A motorcycle - dispatch rider coat or sometimes known as a rider's wader I believe. All I can say is that this coat is the closest thing to armor since the 16th century! It is constructed of the HEAVIEST weight canvas or duckcloth I've ever seen - In the old West this baby could have turned an arrow or a perhaps even bullet at a distance - well maybe not a bullet... The coat appears to be complete; the most snaps, flaps, buttons and buckles I've ever seen - must've come with an instruction manual! I believe I got it on properly though I smell strongly of vintage rubberized canvas. I am 5' 11" and the coat seems to fit well although I was fairly immobized while wearing it. I can really understand the need for this kind of protection while riding an open BSA or Royal Enfield Motorcycle at the front while dodging shrapnel, etc. It does give a great feeling of security and I imagine that it would be impervious to shotgun pellets, barb wire and maybe bayonet thrusts. The markings on the inside upper back include the size 5, the broad arrow and a circular stamp that I can't quite make out although I can see the date of 1944. On the inside right middle is the broad arrow of British military acceptance as well as the initials WMD and the number 215. On the inside left middle is the remains
