Hi, What you are looking at is a WW2 British steel helmet that a vet personalized. Painted on the sides are his unit insignia for the Royal Engineers. Painted in white his D-Day service, in blue his service in the Royal Artillery in Great Brittan prior to D-Day, and a list of his mates Pete, Tom, Saul, Bob and more in red . Very hard to read the red and blue painted words. Also around the edge of the helmet is a list of female names. His girlfriends?, dates? floozies? one night stands? The names are Gwen, Be Be, Beryl, Olly,Daphiny, Oni, Joan, Dorathy, Esther, Thelma,Mona, and Audry. Your guess is as good as mine. The liner has seen better days. Dried out and torn. the chin strap is also ripped through at one swivel side. Neat little item. Not a modern made copy. This is the real deal.
