This is part of the S. Thimc Collection. The most amazing collection of knives and misc militaria and antiques I have ever seen. He has honored me with the tasking of listing his items which have been meticulously guarded over, in some cases, for many many years. He is currently refining his collection of 35+ years and parting with some real gems. In all honesty, long over due!!! Many of these items have been “off the market” for some time. His specialty is U.S. Military but as you will see, has a wide variety of some of the finest items money can buy. Listings will be sporadic but it is my goal not to be over whelmed and in an attempt to spread the collection out, I will be listing approx 5 items a week ending on Sunday evenings. If payment is made on Sunday(Florida time EST), the day the item ends, I will ship the item the next day (Monday). Otherwise, there is a good chance it will not be shipped until the following Saturday, 6 days after auctions end pending payment. I am very excited about this endeavor. I am sure most of these items will sell themselves and need not a description but I will give it a go! -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------DESCRIPTION: Here we have a legend listed!!! A San Antonio Iron Works Cut Down Model 1913 Patton Sword blade made into a fighting knife!! This week I am listing 2 San Antonio Iron Works and 1 Anderson Patton Cut-down fighting knives. To the best of my understanding, during WW2 there was a steel shortage and people / factories / the government was using whatever they could get a hold of. As there were a surplus of Model 1913 Patton swords available and warfare had changed at this point pretty much making sword fighting a thing of the past / obsolete, they were utilized to make fighting knives. One patton sword could make 3 fighting knives utilizing the base, the center and the tip of the blade. This one utilizes the original grip of the sword and the base of the blade. This knife is a beast!!!! Approx 14 1/2" overall. The blade, including ricasso is approx 8 3/16" long / the fat grip, including guard is approx 6 3/16" long. Overall the knife is in great condition. Everything on the knife is tight. Has not been "soldier sharpened". The blade does show some oxidation stains. On the ricasso it appears a soldier punched in his initials "SW" in dots, at least thats what it looks like to me. It is integrated into the knife well though. If you've ever held one of these beasts in your hand, you know, they command adoration, if not, I am sorry!! The original sheath has amazing tool marks / designs worked into it. Unfortunately the sheath is not in as good condition as the knife. The piece of the sheath that attaches to the belt, where it connects to the main part where the knife blade slides in, at that connection point is an extreme weakness. It is tearing at both sides and maybe has 20% left in the middle keeping it attached. I have not and will not attempt to clean this up at all, that will be left up to the new owner. A great chance to own a "slice" of US WW2 history!! Please look at photos closely for better description.Thank you for your interest.
