This listing ostensibly represents the most highly regarded combat award during WWII. you the coveted Combat Infantry Badge awarded to Combat Infantrymen only. The award is embossed sterling silver on the reverse, has double clutch back posts featuring the desired sterling locking caps, has the frosted reverse, and is in outstanding condition. Many vets would say to hell with medals but would proudly accept, wear and display their CIB. This combat award is uniquely American. It features a sterling silver Kentucky Long Rifle on an enamel field of dark blue with a sterling silver wreath. The enamel blue field is dark blue. T is some wear to the blue face as can be seen in the photos. The design is one-piece construction. The sterling patina is gorgeous. The wreath and rifle are beautifully crafted. The award measures 1 by 3 inches. I have included photographs from page 20 of GI, Government Issue, A Collectorâe(tm)s Guide to the European Theatre.
GI infantrymen and paratroopers were generally the only soldiers who could earn this award. It involved enduring ongoing combat. However, during the Battle of the Bulge when Quartermaster, Supply and other rear echelon troops were combed out of rear areas and fought as infantry a special act was passed to award these GIs the coveted CIB. T are some sound arguments in our current Global War that as Military Police, Artillerymen, etc. are assuming the role of infantry in Iraq and Afghanistan and that these troops should receive this prestigious combat award. The award is so special that GIs and Paratroopers who received the CIB automatically were awarded a Bronze Star Medal. (After the war in 1950, and many GIs including my Dadâe(tm)s neighbor/friend, an 508th PIR 82nd Airborne D-Day Paratrooper, have never put in for their BSM to go with the CIB so definitely look into this for your loved one, neighbor or friend.) The award is appropriate for officers and enlisted soldiers and can be worn on an Ike Jacket or Tunic. The winning bidder can opt for a Padded Bag and First Class Postage with tracking slip in lieu of the standard Priority Mail Option. This marked, WWII Sterling Silver Combat Infantry Badge with sterling marked clutch back caps in outstanding condition would make a spectacular addition, upgrade, and/or completion to most any WWII GI and/or Paratrooper Uniform and/or Insignia Collection. The CIB would be perfect for a re-enactorâe(tm)s uniform, your display, museums, and for educational and theatrical presentations as well as a gift to a veteran. The Combat Infantry Badge would look terrific in a shadow box display or as a gift to a WWII Combat Veteran. I am listing a number of caps, uniform items, field gear, insignia, ribbons, home front items, etc., this week. Please do a seller-search using my username: martinolij to check it out. Thank you. Payment in US Dollars is due within 11 days of the listingâe(tm)s conclusion. I accept Pay Pal. Checks are fine but I generally clear them. Money Orders and Bank Checks ship ASAP. Items paid through Pay Pal will ship when the funds clear and are transferred to my bank account. Smaller items can be shipped easily, safely and affordably in a Global Priority Flat One Rate Envelope or First Class Ma...
