This offering is for a vintage authentic rare WW2 Japanese Map of Australia. Sources tell me it was printed in 1943. The map came from a stack of several maps that were among a collection of WW2 documents at an auction sale. When the items came up on the auction block, the maps were sold separately. Any clues to their intended use or exact origin went with the official government documents they were with. This map is printed entirely in Japanese on a rice like paper unlike the clay based slick paper usually associated with maps. The item measures 21 1/2 by 30 inches unfolded and about 7 1/2 by 11 inches folded. (folded 3 times) I have provided a picture of the opened map. The map itself is in pristine condition. This map comes in a self storage sleeve. I have also provided front and rear views of the sleeve. Very attractive in itself. Just a tiny bit of flaking to the upper left hand corner of the sleeve. Note in the lower right hand section of the front of the sleeve is a gold on white official looking seal with black lettering. Not sure of the significance. I would venture to say that the map has never been opened prior to my doing so. No rips, tears, spots, holes or damage of any kind. Only very light toning/yellowing. These vintage maps look absolutely super matted and framed. And this one is in a near perfect state of preservation. read more
