YOU ARE BIDDING ON A LEMANIA NERO AIRCRAFT TIMER WITH A JEWELED MOVEMENT. THE WRITING ON THE MOVEMENT IS :" LEMANIA SWISS", "1353014" &"1515.
The timer was most probably used in the RAF as I have found many similar Lemania Neros in the RAF reference but none exactly like this timer. It operates as follows: The winding knob (at 7:30 on the dial) is also a stop start button. If the timer is running and the knob is pushed the timer stops, it restarts when the knob is pushed a second time, It must have been used as a lapsed time clock. The smaller reset knob takes the dial to 0 (12 on the dial) if its pressed. If its held in it stops the timer until released. From the RAF data files NERO "The back of the case is fitted with a corrosion inhibitor." as is this piece. Hand written on the corrosion inhibitor is "CR413R or CR493R" which I assume is a maintenance code . The RAF data refers to a NERO"36-hour type, having a movement incorporating 16 jewels and a Breguet overcoil hairspring." I'm going to wind it and see how long it runs, the results will be posted It appears to keep very good time but we shall also report the results. The timer has been started at 12:15 Saturday 2 June. It weighs 9 ounces and the dial is 2", the case is 2.25" on 3 sides with the 4th having a bulge for the reset knob. The case is 1" deep and the winding knob extends 11/16". I'm positive the serial numbers ("1353014" &"1515) will confirm its WW2 vintage. I would appreciate it if anyone can confirm this. Glad to ship to the UK etc, MONDAY. The timer stopped Sunday at 30 hours 47 minutes, as I was out I can't report on the gain or loss. A second test will start today. In 24 hours it gained 44 seconds. WENDSDAY. Yesterday I started the timer at noon and as of now(21hours 50 minutes later) its 1 second fast . Hard to understand, only change the timer was on its back. Friday: On a 15 minute run it gained a fraction of a second. The last run went 30 hours and 29 minutes, but the winder still had tension. The movement obviously needs service. Opps, I know Wendsday should be Wednesday.
