This is a 1939-1945 period, private-purchase, brown leather, flying jacket, typical of the style purchased by Luftwaffe fighter pilots during the war. I have seen photos of Gunther Rall and Eric Hartman wearing similar jackets. It is doudle brested, fastened with 2 piece silver metal pebble grain buttons. Most are marked S M K 21, but the cuff buttons are stamped 21 m/m EXTRA FEIN. All appear to be original to the jacket and are matching. The shoulder board buttons are slightly smaller and I could not see the stamps due to the boards. The jacket has the stitch holes from a brest eagle visable on the right, evidently the eagle was removed at some point. The boards are for flying branch, company grade officer, and appear to originally have had 2 pips on each board (Hauptman). They are not marked, but appear original and are well-made of fine woven wire. The external pockets are zipper closed. The right pocket zipper is brass and looks original to the jacket. The left side zipper has been replaced with a steel zipper marked OPTI on the pull. Both work. The leather is in very good condition, supple, with no holes or tears. This jacket is very wearable. The lining is a slightly coarse (wartime?) mid-weight wool woven fabric, dark blue in bolor, and is in good condition. Sleve lining is hand stitched with an satin finish material. T is a repair to the stitching of the collar on the right, running inside but is well done and not obvious. The jacket has one interior pocket on the right. T are no makers marks or stamps remaining. It is approximately U.S. size 38. Measures 14 1/2" across the shoulders, sleve length 23. Returns: Must be returned in the same condition as sent (within 7 days) for refund of purchase price less postage (and insurance if requested.)
