TO EBAY T IS NOT A "REAL" MEDAL WITH THIS GROUP JUST A PICTURE This is a group of pictures and documents from the family of Medal of Honor winner Sgt. Herbert Joseph Thomas a US Marine killed in action.This marine was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic action in the battle at the Koromokina river Bougainville Islands,Solomon Islands.Sgt. Herbert Thomas on the 7th of November 1943 while leading his group of men against fears machine gun fire through a hand grenade that struck some vines and fell back amongst his men he through himself on-top of the grenade saving his men while taking his one life.I can't think of anything more heroic.This Marine not only was awarded the MOH but also had a ship named after him that fought in WW2 the USS H J Thomas.You can read the citation from the copy I pulled off the web. Please checkout this site: /archives/05/833.htm Now I will list the original pieces one at a time: 1) 4 original pictures of Sgt. Thomas taken when he was an army cadet befor he decided to be a US Marine. 2) 11- 8x10 original pictures 1 a picture of several Marines carrying Sgt. Herbert Thoma's casket ,One of the Thomas family ,One with his sister christening the ship USS H J Thomas and several more.Most of the photos are from the christening of the ship USS H J Thomas. 3) 2 framed original pictures of the USS H J Thomas sent to the family from the commanding officer of the ship one signed buy the commander. 4) 2 original documents "cover letters" one from the Navy yard in Boston and the other from 2nd army headquarters West Virginia Military district ,telling about sending the pictures of the ship named for t son Herbert J Thomas.You can look at and read the letter in the pictures i have added. 5) Two newspaper articles about Sgt.Thomas and the Medal of Honor 6) Is a old report card for Herbert Thomas from 1929 grade 6th 7) Is a funeral notice for the father of Herbert Thomas and his name is also Herbert Thomas.8) Is a original pamphlet from Sgt. Thoma's days as a star football player 9) Is a Cadet regulations booklet from the Greenbrier Military School signed by cadet Herbert J. Thomas 10) Several original envelopes that most of this stuff came to the family in. 11) Is a very well done 8x10 copy of a picture of Sgt. Thomas with original writing on the back from the family telling that this picture was taken in New Zealand in July or August 1943 ,"the previous owner has the original and I have bin trying to obtain that to no success so fare.but if the buyer wants that photo I will keep trying" FRAMES AND CASES NOT INCLUDED The 4 pictures of Sgt Thomas with the R.O.T.C infantry crossed rifles are original ,and all the 8x 10's are all original. The only one that is not original is the picture of Sgt Thomas the 8 x 10 with Sgt stripes that picture is a copy but very well done, it is a copy front and back of the original. I know who has the original and the winning bidder should be able to buy that one separately in time .Everything in this group is ORIGINAL except the (1) 8x10 of Sgt Thomas and the citation for the M.O.H i took off the web .Also not original are the (2) pictures of the Navy/Marine Medal of Honor i took of the web also.
