This item up for sale is a very nice all original full US Military Gas Casulty Medic Kit. It is full of its original boxes, complete and very respectable. This early vintage set was carried in motor vehicles and was termed a Type D kit. Also refered to as a 12 Unit. This one has the original boxes all full and original. Very scarce to find one of these still full with its original boxes in it. This one is in rather good condition. The outside has some wear and light paint damage but not enough to cause any real distraction of the kit. The latches are all in good condition. The items inside were made by a early company in Chicago Ill named " William V MacGill & Co " which was not a large producer of the kits but did supply some medical products to the US Military in 1943. The boxes in the kit are all full except the Burn Ointment and Ammonia Inhalents. The kit th was manufactured by the A.E. Halperin Co, in Boston Mass. The interesting thing about this kit is the instruction in the use of Chloroform, Copper Sulfate, Calomine, and other products for gas casulties are not the products in the kit however the US Military reasoning for that was clear in lieu of very special treatment for gas exposure the average soldier would not be well qualified to understand which chemical to use for which gas was present. The standard kit was produced to treat in a basic form prior to removal to a more adiquate treatment facility. The kit is very unique and a very respectable piece of history. It will make a very nice addition to any collection or display. Enjoy shopping and thanks again for your time to browse our items. Information below provided by the Olive Drab Web Site. World War II Vehicle First Aid Kits During World War II special first aid kits were issued for installation in vehicles: Motor Vehicle First Aid Kit Type D Motor Vehicle First Aid Kit (12 Unit) Motor Vehicle First Aid Kit (24 Unit) Gas Casualty First Aid KitThe contents were divided into "units" each in its own package. The packages included bandages, sulfa medications, disinfectants, ointments, and utensils such as safety pins, tourniquet, scissors, splint, and forceps. Each kit had a contents list, ususally under the cover, specifying what it should contain, based on the time it was manufactured and packed. The contents varied over time as treatment advances became available or as inventories were used to restock kits in the field. Motor Vehicle First Aid Kit Type DPrior to WW II the standard vehicle first aid kit was called the Type D. At least two models have been identified, with either ten units or twelve units of content (ten unit in photo at top of page). The sturdy steel case had a piano hinge and mounting holes. They were manufactured by Mine Safety Appliances Co. of Pittsburgh, PA (MSA) and perhaps other companies. These were essentially commercial kits, used in industry, adapted for U.S. military use.
