This is a vintage, metal framed, metal boxed, old goggle from the 1930's to World War Two era. These are STERILE and just not marked anyw (Don't get your hopes up, they are NOT OSS or anything secret like that!) I believe these to be European, likely German or French, and these kind of goggles WERE used in World War Two. They are not US Army issue, but the Germans, French, and even the Italians used these. including the armor/tank/panzer/cavalry troops - AND the MOUNTAIN troops! These have clear lenses w the mountain troops had tinted lenses, but the the stamped metal frame body, the little metal can/case, it's a lot like those. This is a green-painted metal case, with a set of metal-framed goggles, with a grey/gray elastic strap - and the strap is in just fantastic shape. Still springy! This has a leather piece connecting the eye pieces. These are vented, like german WWII mountain troop goggles, but again, these are not marked. No "US", no Swastika, no italy mountain troops, no french "Chasseurs Alpins," No "Swiss Mountain Patrol" or anything. The lens is clear plastic, not tinted black like mountain goggles would be. This set came from the old BARNACLE WHARF TRADING COMPANY in Ohio about 20+ years ago - they had a CASE of these 1930s-WW11 goggles...and then they burned down and lost any remaining goggles. They are VINTAGE goggles, from SOME european country. If they were GERMAN, then some tank driver or soldier in Germany would have worn them on their helet or around their neck to keep them handy. If they wree from FRANCE, then the french commandant de char would have worn them during the rough summer of 1940. (De Gaulle's tank troops!) Once France fell, the Germans confiscated EVERYTHING and they would have taken and re-issued these goggles to their own wehrmacht or panzer or heer troops anyway! Italy? Same thing! And - any American soldier might have found / bought / captured these goggles. A neat souvenir for the folks back home, OR you could wear them when you were flying up the road in your White Scout Car or Halftrack or Jeep, doing recon work for the main body of the division! Crossing the Rhine! Assaulting the Siegfried line! And for the war in the DESERT of north africa! The 10th Mountain Division in Italy! ANY SOLDIER! Anyway, t his is a great old military goggle from the 1930's or 1940's. This is in great shape. This is still wearable, and is in good condition.
