A scarce WW2 RAF Aircrew Booklet dated June 1941 "INSTRUCTIONS and GUIDE to ALL OFFICERS and AIRMEN"...Principally on Interrogation Resistence on being Captured by the Enemy, the property of an RAF Sergeant who became a POW after a raid on Germany, with a remarkably detailed history. Overall very good / excellent condition. Also has information on the destruction of anything that may be useful to the enemy, and so on.Despite being printed 71 years ago, the Interrogation Resistence Techniques remain unchanged today.Not surisingly the Booklet Has " NOT TO BE CARRIED IN AIRCRAFT " printed on the front. Three pages that fold into a booklet size about 12.7cm by about 10.6cm, unfolded about 31.8cm by about 12.7cm. This item was p urchased with a quantity of other WW2 RAF items that belonged to a named WW2 British RAF Bomber Aircrew Sergeant, and German POW, all very well taken care of in a top qual;ity blue leather suitcase, all from a private source and new to the collectors market.We have managed to put together a remarkably detailed and fascinating account of Sergeant Arthur W Horseman's WW2 RAF Career, including the fateful Raid On Hamburg in 1942, and details of his POW. Also included is a copy of a photo from the RAF 1940 Booklet "They Made Me An Airman" showing Sergeant Horseman's Basic Training Group Course "4 D 4.", although we have been uanble to ascertain which is Sergeant Horseman.This was signed by the NCO's in charge of the course. HISTORY (1) Sergeant Arthur W Horsman (2) RAF Service Number 1164562(3) Undertook Basic Training in 1940 on Course 4 D 4.(4) Continued training at RAF Cottesmore 1941.(5) After Completion of Training As Air Gunner / Wireless Operator Attached 5 Group Bomber Command (6) Mission Raid on Hamburg in a Handley Page Hampden ( The Flying Suitcase) 15th January 1942.Aircraft Number P.1341. (7) The International Mixed Nationality Crew of Four took off from RAF Coningsby at 5.10 Hours on the 15th January 1942 SEE /wiki/Handley_Page_Hampden (8) CREW LIST. ( Unusual crew in that they are mixed nationality and all having the rank of Sergeant)Pilot Sergeant W.S. Dashwood from New ZealandObservor Sergeant C.O.R. Rousseau from CanadaAir Gunner Sergeant E.A.Moore from EnglandAir Gunner / Wireless Operator Sergeant A.W.Horseman from England.(9) Hampden badly damaged after being hit by Flack over Hamburg.(10) The crew made an attempt to return to UK but Crash Landed at Esbjerg in Denmark 15th January 1942.(11) Sergeant Arthur W.Horseman became a POW at Stalag Luft 383 POW Camp , Hohen, Germany.(12) Sergeant Arthur W.Horseman POW Number 106(13) All the above is a matter of record.It seems likely, but not verified, that Sergeant A.W.Horseman continued in Service with the RAF after WW2, as there were three Post WW2 RAF items of Paperwork in the Suitcase. (14) Probably Pre WW2 Service with the International Brigade, fighting Facism in Spain in the 1930's Possibly a member of the "PSU" (The Partit Socialista Unificat ). Everything that belonged to this gentleman has been very carefully taken care of including 24 unused postcards from the Spanish Civil War with a number of "PSU" Post Cards.We have checked the recently declassified MI5 Files on lists they held of International Brigade Members, and althogh there is no "Horseman " listed, the list is by no means complete.
