Up for auctionis an RAF ashtray made from a Piston as used in a Rolls Royce Merlin Aero Engine. It is inscribed with the famous Speech by Winston Churchill:- ''Never in the Field of Human Conflict Has So Much Been Owed By So Many To So Few'' RAF crest and Motto in the Centre, below this is inscribed:- ''Made From A Rolls Royce Merlin Engine Piston As Used In The Battle Of Britain-August-October 1940'' On the base is:- ''Made In England'' Apparently these were made in limited numbers just after WW2 for RAFA to raise funds for Ex-RAF personal. It is in very good condition with no major dents or deep scratches, just the usual marks through light usage. I would suggest that it was more likely used as an ornament than an ashtray.
