WW2 Uniform Grouping for 20th USAAF (identified) Staff Sergeant includes: M-1939 Wool Serge Service Coat (Revised Service Coat M-1942), Size 35R, Dated November 11, 1942. Fully Tagged. Outstanding condition. Beautiful 20th USAAF patch on left shoulder; one service stripe and one overseas bar on lower left sleeve; 4 ribbons above left breast pocket including American Campaign; Asiatic Pacific Campaign; World War II Victory; Good Conduct; US Army Air Forces insignia on left collar and US insignia on right collar; Ruptured Duck (honorable discharge) patch above left breast pocket; Model 1942 Staff Sergeant (E-6) chevrons on both sleeves - All buttons present and accounted for - I found one pencil point sized hole near the right armpit Shirt, Flannel, Coat Style, Special; Size 14 x 32; no other tags; no moth holes; has one brownish stain on lower right sleeve (see picture with quarter); has gas flaps present; has all buttons including the two behind the collar Trouser, Field, Wool, Special; Size 29 x 29; fully tagged; no moth holes; no stains; has gas flap; has all buttons; a really near mint condition set of trousers Overcoat, Wool, Roll Collar; Size 34R; fully tagged; no moth holes; no stains; all buttons present; impossible to upgrade this overcoat Cap, Service, Enlisted Man's including proper enlisted men's cap device; has approximately 13 (give or take) pencil point sized moth holes on top and sides (last picture shows top of this cap); could not find a size; probably 6 5/8 or 7 Cap, Garrison, OD - the first cap is in solid OD green with no piping; it does have several moth holes; no tags but about a size 7 Cap, Garrison, OD with blue piping - no tags in this and the blue infantry piping is a bit of a mystery to me since everything I have learned about the original owner of these items indicated he only served with the USAAF; do not know w it came from but it was in the box when I got the box so I am passing it along; it does have several scattered moth holes Hopefully, you bidders will be satisfied with the numerous pictures and the descriptions, but if you need more of either please email me at least two days before the auction ends and I will send you more. History of the 20th USAAF from Wikepedia, " During World War II, 20th AF was headquartered in the United States , under command of General Henry H. (Hap) Arnold , with direction from the Joint Chiefs of Staff , its B-29 components operated in the China-Burma-India theatre and Pacific theater of operations , carrying the air war to the Japanese. Operations climaxed with atomic attacks on Japan in August 1945 .Initially under the command of Hap Arnold , and later Curtis LeMay and Nathan Twining , in August 1945 the Twentieth Air Force was placed under the U.S. Strategic Air Forces in the Pacific which was commanded by General Carl Spaatz .Initially the attack was made via China as that was the only Allied held territory in within the flying range of Japan. The arrangements made with the Chinese national forces under the command of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek was to construct four staging bases in western China near Chengtu and supply them with by air-lift codenamed Operation Matterhorn . It was organized by XX Bomber Command operating out of India . All supplies for the operation had to be flown over the Hump from India into China as sections of the Burma Road were under Japanese control. This was never a satisfactory arrangement because not only were the Chinese Airbases difficult to supply, B29s operating from them could only reach Japan if they substituted some of the bomb load for extra fuel tanks in the bomb-bays.When Admiral Chester Nimitz 's island-hopping campaign towards Japan captured islands close enough to Japan to be within the range of B29s, XXI Bomber Command organized a much more effective bombing campaign of the Japanese home islands.
