Genuine, authentic, original hand signed photograph of Waffen Elite Panzer Untersturmfuhrer Oskar Schafer.Schafer was a highly decorated German Elite Forces tank commander during WW2. Schafer fought in the Invasion of Poland, Battle of France, and during Operation Barbarossa (Invasion of Russia) fought with the Das Reich 2nd SS division near the gates of Moscow, and then soon transfered to the 5th SS Panzer Viking Division in Russia, where in 1943 Schafer as one of the few new commanders of Tiger tanks. Later he would command a Panzer company. In 1943, Schafer would command a King Tiger Panzer near the Fuhrerbunker, and even tho he suffered heavy burns, received his Knights Cross of the Iron Cross on April 28 1945 in the bunker itself. In May he helped to have rescued SS General Mohnke from Communist Russians capturing the bunker, but was wounded with heavy burns, blindness and loss of memory, and spent 2 years in hospital before recovery. Because of his extreme personal bravery and successful military leadership in combat, he was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross. The black and white postcard photograph measures: 4 x 6 inches, and shows Schafer in his Waffen Elite uniform, and he has signed his birthdate "16.01.1921 Oskar Schafer" below his image in contrasting black fountain pen ink.
