Finley, Transportation Corps, U.S. Army; 1918 appointment as Captain, Transportation Corps; 1919 appointment as Captain In Engineers; copies of newspaper articles regarding awarding of Croix de Guerre received by Finley for heroism in France; engraving of award of French Comagnie Transatlantic; group of nearly 20 TLsS and copy letters of Commendation for Finley from various officers in the American Expeditionary Force including Gen. Pershing’s office; War Dept officer’s pay voucher; officers record book; army pamphlet on character building; quartermaster list of issued field clothing and equipment; letter from member of U.S. Senate; invitation to Army Navy Club of America; business card reading The Secretary to the President with inked manuscript to Mr. Ralph Hayes. Dear Ralph; this will be presented by Capt. John J. Finley, please do what you can for him J.P.T.; TLS from U.S. Senator William M. Calder, New York, again an intro, this time to the chairman of the U.S. shipping board; group of commendations for Capt. The archive also includes a 6 x 9” photograph of Finley being presented an award in France, also a 2.5 x 4” photo of Finley and other officers in France. Includes several pre-war civilian images of Finley and friend. Archive also includes his service ribbons from WWI including two with attached star and one with three attached stars, four Army Corps collar pins, two U.S. collar pins, three silver Captains bars and enameled sterling locket with Son in Serviced symbol.
