Original WWI Era US/USMC AEF M1917 Helmet w/Complete Liner & Chin Strap - Original Paint w/78th Infantry Division Emblem (Lighting Division) on Helmet Up for auction is an Original WWI Era US/USMC AEF M1917 Helmet . This helmet has the orginal paint wth the original cork textured finish. It has the 78th Infantry Division Emblem, betten known as the "Lighting Division" on the front of the helmet. It includes the original leather liner. On the back side of the liner it has an ink stamp, marked Long 1917. The liner is still has the complete original netting and the horsehair pad. The liner is still soft and supple, not cracking and dried out. The chin strap is still present and intact. The leather strap is still soft and supple, there a vintage repair on one side of the strap, . The rim of the helmet has a number stamped into it "ZF45", I assume some production code. The rim is fully intact, not rusting and separating. The helmet has about 90% of the original paint left, with no dings or dents in the helmet. The 78th Division was activated on 23 August 1917 at Camp Dix, New Jersey. Deployed in France during the summer and fall of 1918, it was the "point of the wedge" of the final offensive, which knocked out Germany.
