WWI Imperial German visor cap or schirmmütze as issued to the Brunswick (Braunschweig ) 92nd Infantry Regiment . Hat made of deep blue wool with red cap band and piping , with the requisite national and state cockades. The Brunswick 92nd was one of the few regiments to sport the totenkopf or death's-head badge in the Kaiser's Germany; the others were the Brunswick 17th Hussar Regiment and the 1st and 2nd regiments of the Kaiser's Leibhusaren (the Royal Body Guard of Hussars). This particular cap has a worn sweat band and a silk lining. T are no maker's marks or markings of any kind. The visor is of black pressboard. The item has seen use and improper care; the fabric is worn on the rear of the crown, and has a hole on the left front edge, above the piping. It would seem a previous collector reattached the sweatband with hot glue -- this is not visible, but t are a few hard bulges under the cap band. Please examine photos with care. However, the damage does not detract visibly from the cap and the whole still displays handsomely. In nearly ten years of collecting I have only seen one other one.
