RARE: pre-WWI Era US AEF Collins No. 1005 2nd Type Bolo Machete w/Leather Scabbard - Very Good Condition Up for Auction is a pre-WWI Era US AEF Collins No. 1005 US Army Engineers Bolo Machete. This is the 2nd Type 1005 with the Coco-bolo Handle without the metal ferrule. The blade is in nice condition. You can see some evidence of prior sharpening. T are also a few very small minor nicks in the blade. It has the No. 1005 and Collins & Co. Hartford markings on the blade. I tried to get the best photo of the markings I could, they are much more clear than the photo shows. The wooden handles are in very good condition, NO Cracks or Chips in the wood. Most of these knives have damage to the handles. Please see the photo. The coco-bolo handle have a rich dark reddish brown color. The leather scabbard is in Very Good Condition. No rips or tears in the leather. The leather is soft and supple. Not hard and cracking as is common on these scabbards. The rear of the scabbard has some surface cracks. A nice example of a 2nd type Collins Bolo Machete. If you see M.H. Coles Book's "Best of US Military Knives, Bayonets & Machetes" page 52.
