WWI German Trench/Fighting Knife - Unusual Clip-Point Design Album Album Album Album Album Album Album Background : Offered for auction is an usual German WWI Fighting/Trench Knife with the scabbard. This knife could be field made as it doesn't bear the Imperioal acceptance stamp, although the blade is appears to be a clip-point bowie-type design used for fighting knives. The handle has a robust cross-guard on one side to protect the hand in combat. Description : Knife is in good condition with full-length clip-point blade and only minor surface staining. The knife still retains its leather spacer at the ricasso. Please note that the brownish color on the blade visible in some of the pictures is the remains of a cosmoline- type grease. The wooden grips are smooth dark wood, one side of which has a small crack between the rivet and the cross-guard. The cross-guard is a swept-back design on one side, common to bayonets, but very effective as a hand-guard in close-combat fighting. The knife scabbard is the standard belt type, commonly found in WWI trench knives. It is black with a leather hanger. Unfortunately, the button snap is coming out of one side of the retaining strap because the age of the leather. The rest of the leather belt hanger is in good shape.
