Long and very heavy wool trench coat that is definitely military but I really don't know what war or even maybe from a military officers school? I have moved it to this category from a helpful Ebay member that gave me some information and changed the title. Either way this is an item that is seldom seen with these buttons still on the coat. It is 19" from outer seam on shoulder to shoulder, 21" from underarm to underarm across the chest. The sleeve is 14" long from armpit to end on cuff and 25" from top outside of arm down to cuff. The coat is 50" long from collar to hem and weighs a little 7 1/2 lbs. The large buttonsare 1 2/8" across and t are 5 on each side of the coat and then 2 on the back strap. Out of these 12 buttons 3 are marked W.H. Horstmann & Co. Phila, PA (dating 1864-1866). 9 are marked D. EVANS CO. Attelboro Falls (dating 1848-1945). I found the dating for these buttons on /~jimyce/bm.html#E . T are also 5 small metal buttons that measure 5/8" across and they are also marked with the Horstmann mark. T is braid trim on both lower sleeves as shown in my pictures and someone told me that the military insignia is a sargents stripe. This coat will button from either side. It does have some moth damage on the lower hem but I don't find any on the upper part of the coat and it's really not bad for it's age, that's only my opinion though and I am not an expert on this age of coat. Ask away on questions I'll be more than happy to answer but please give me enough time to answer them before auction end. This coat is not a reproduction and would make a wonderful addition to any museum or private collection. OUT OF COUNTRY SHIPPING: I will ship out of country but only to the adresses on file with paypal in order to protect myself and you as a buyer. All items must be insured. Please note that you may have to pay duty tax on items that enters your country. I am not responsible for any other fees associated with sold items after they leave my care. If your package is lost or damaged and insurance needs to be filed it will have to be completed and filed at your postal service on your end which may take up to 2 months. I will not accept paypal claims on lost/stolen or broken/damaged items in the mail, they will need to be filed with your postal service with insurance. If you want any other methods of shipping then please email as I will have to have alternative payment to ship any other way. I KNOW THAT SHIPPING IS EXPENSIVE & I DON'T LIKE IT ANY BETTER THAN YOU DO. I need to clarify the pockets on this coat. T are 2 side pockets that you can get to from either inside or outside on this coat with long deep cotton pockets, it is quite cleverly made. Then t is another pocket on the inside left part of the coat situated near the front of coat. Then t is another slit pocket on the left side behind the regular side pocket around the waist and I've been told now that this was for a sword handle to stick through? LIke I said I'm not an expert and a lot of people are sending me different information. I've got anyw from civil war, spanish war, WWI to West Point Academy coat to pick from. All that I do know at this point is that everyone agrees that it is authentic and rarely seen original military coat of this age for sale.
