Long and very heavy wool trench coat that is definitely military but I really don't know what war or even maybe from a military officers school? I have moved it to this category from a helpful Ebay member that gave me some information and changed the title. Either way this is an item that is seldom seen with these buttons still on the coat. It is 19" from outer seam on shoulder to shoulder, 21" from underarm to underarm across the chest. The sleeve is 14" long from armpit to end on cuff and 25" from top outside of arm down to cuff. The coat is 50" long from collar to hem and weighs a little 7 1/2 lbs. The large buttonsare 1 2/8" across and t are 5 on each side of the coat and then 2 on the back strap. Out of these 12 buttons 3 are marked W.H. Horstmann & Co. Phila, PA (dating 1864-1866). 9 are marked D. EVANS CO. Attelboro Falls (dating 1848-1945). I found the dating for these buttons on /~jimyce/bm.html#E . T are also 5 small metal buttons that measure 5/8" across and they are also marked with the Horstmann mark. T is braid trim on both lower sleeves as shown in my pictures and someone told me that the military insignia is a sargents stripe. This coat will button from either side. It does have some moth damage on the lower hem but I don't find any on the upper part of the coat and it's really not bad for it's age, that's only my read more
