Silver plated WWI pocket compass on a sterling silver fob chain. The compass is approx. 1 3/4 " (4.5 cms) diameter x 1/2 " (1.3 cms) thick and the chain is 14 3/4 " (37.5 cms) long. The case has the War Department crows foot or arrow mark and is signed Terracce.W.Co, VI, 72115 (serial number) and 1918 (year date). The exterior has some wear to the silver plating, but the interior is in in lovely condition. It has a silvered and enamel floating compass dial under glass. The sprung loaded catch on the lid is still fully functional. The fob chain has graduated links and is sterling silver, each link bears a Lion Passant mark, albeit rubbed and hard to see. Not sure about the fittings either end of the chain. Chain would benefit from a clean. The chain alone weighs 1 oz. (28 grms). The compass is in good working order and very good condition, apart from the worn silver plate. Please scroll down to view more photos, any bright areas are light reflections.
