This is one of several sets of vintage flying goggles I'll be auctioning this week. These are World War I Willson "Service" goggles as were widely used by U.S. Air Service aviators in France during the war.

Representative examples of the Willson Service goggles can be seen on page 151 of Mick Prodger's excellent reference for collectors "Vintage Flying Helmets."

The condition of the goggles is good overall. The lenses show only minor wear. Vision is still good and crisp through them. The frame is structurally sound. The name "Willson" is stamped into the underside of the bridge (see photo). The metal mesh side screens are in good shape and retain the original velvet covering around the edges. They fold inward for storage in the original tin, which is also included. The headstrap is a modern replacement and ties behind the head for display or use. This is a very nice set of WWI aviator goggles that can be worn if desired.

Shipping to the lower 48 states via USPS Priority Mail w/delivery confirmation will be $6.00; overseas via Letter Post Air (7-10 days, generally) is $10.00. Insurance optional for U.S. buyers.
