This set of vintage flying goggles just looks like it's been t and done that above France and over the trenches during WWI! The Willson Service Goggle, shown on page 151 of Mick Prodger's "Vintage Flying Helmets" is one of the key types of goggles worn by the U.S. Air Service pilots who flew the Spads and Sopwith Camels of the day. The goggles are in excellent, wearable condition. The goggles are complete and not missing any fittings. The amber glass lenses are in very good condition, showing only light wear from use. The frame is sound and is stamped "Willson" beneath the bridge. Both metal mesh side shields are undamaged and fold inward for storage. The original felt eye liners are in perfect condition (see photos). The original strap is present but is not resilient. It would be easily replaced with new elastic if desired. Also included is the original metal storage tin, which is well-worn condition, but continues to do its job nearly 100 years later! The tin closes securely and has a paper label inside noting a 1918 date of manufacture. If you're a collector of vintage aviation items or want a sound helmet for a WWI re-enactment, don't let this slip by, as you'd be hard-pressed to find a better example anyw Postage $7.50 to U.S. locations (insurance optional); $22.00 overseas w/ insurance determined by final sales price. IMPORTANT NOTE: This item is sold "as-is" and all sales are final, so please be sure to ask any questions you have BEFORE you bid, not after. I'm always happy to answer questions and will provide additional photos if needed. Additionally, the helmet shown is for display ONLY and IS NOT INCLUDED in this auction. Please read my feedback and bid with confidence. I've a number of other similar items listed this week...be sure to check my other auctions for more vintage aviation items.
