This is a WWI New York City Police Department Service Medal. This is a good quality gilt bronze medal and enamel in a unique design. "3100" was the emergency phone number for the NYS police. This is superimposed over crossed rifles and a navy anchor, with a WWI doughboy and a sailor, representing the policemen who "answered the call" of active service. This is the exact piece illustrated in "Planck" (Planchet Press Publication 48A) on page 91. (Paul and I both loaned medals to Al Gleim to photograph for the WWI medal books). This unattributed design is known only from this orgaization, thus it is a one of a kind WWI design. This is cataloged as piece number X53. Ex-Paul Till NYS medal collection. In the next month, I will be offering 200 different New York State WWI local Service Medals. This will include many scarce issues. About half of them are from the famous Paul Till New York State Medal collection, which I acquired in 1982. Those will come in his distinctive envelopes, which have the medal information typed on them. Illustrated at 100%. XF+ condition, ribbon and brooch appear to have been replaced by Till. Only one of these I have ever seen. A rare illustration piece. NO RESERVE !!! Buyer pays $3.00 for insured postage. I will combine postage on multiple orders. PAY PAL, check or money order, please.
