One heavy steel/iron brow plate for a German or Austrian/Austro-Hungarian steel helmet or Stahlhelm as it is called in German. I was told this brow plate is called a Stirnpanzer in German and that it fastened on to bolts on the side of the helmet? T also are some rectangular openings on the side, which I suppose are for fastening straps or chains? It does appear that this helmet plate was painted or repainted at some point? I could not find any manufacture marks but, t is a seam and a fair amount of pitting w t used to be rust I am guessing. T appears to be two types of brown paint. The person this came from had it for some time. I am no expert so I cannot say for sure on the history of this particular piece. All those interested know more than me on this item. Look at the pictures and decide for you self and feel free to ask questions. I will answer to the best of my ability. Please note my revisions to my original description. Thoughtful ebayers have provided me with helpful information. One informed me that reproductions of this are made by . Please go to this website to see that t are differences in this Stirnpanzer as opposed to the one featured t Furthermore, I was informed that Austrian Stirnpanzer were painted in this " Isonzo Brown " color. Once again, no ascertainable manufacturer mark. The decision is yours on this item.
