WWII US ARMY 101st AIRBORNE OFFICER UNIFORM HUGE SIZE IDENTIFIED AND DATED
I purchased this uniform on Ebay about six months ago for an individual. He has since decided to change his military collecting interest. I therefore am re-listing this item for him but I will use the original description so I do not have to accomplish any further research. The following is the original description. Unfortunately, I did not retain the original photos as it was listed on Ebay so I have provided my own photos. The auction is only for the coat. The mannequin, trousers, shirt and tie are not part of the auction. (BEGINNING OF ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION) "This tunic is part of a small uniform collection I bought recently from an older collector. He had some nice groups, but was a poor researcher on named items. I tries to do some quick research on the named pieces." "You are bidding on a WWII US Army officer's Class A OD uniform jacket worn during WWII by a man who lived in the same neighborhood as the older collector. He bought the uniform from this veteran --- who then worked for the State Dept. --- in the 1980s. From what the collector remembered, this GI joined the Army in 1941 and by 1944 was a junior officer in 3rd Army intelligence. When they moved to England to prepare for D-Day and the invasion of France, he volunteered to attend a 6-week airborne replacement jump school. He won his wings, was transferred to 101st Airborne, but did not make the Normandy jump." "Our hero did jump w/ the 101st into Holland and stayed with the division until they returned to the US after VE Day." "The jacket is huge --- my guess is size 44 or 46 long -- and is in overall EX condition..." (AT THIS POINT ALLOW ME TO VERE FROM THE ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION. On the tag inside the uniform someone has written 46 long. The approximate measurements on the jacket are as follows: arm-pit seam to arm-pit seam is 24 inches which, I believe, makes it a 48 inch chest. Across the waist measurement is 21.5 inches. Top shoulder seam to end of sleeve is 24.5 inches. Top shoulder seam to top shoulder seam is 20 inches. Top of collar to the end of the coat is 33.5 inches. BACK TO ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION) "...I am 6'3", solid 260 lbs. and lift weights. I wear a size 48 L jacket.....I can get this tunic on and almost button it. The sleeves fit me properly, too. There are some minor moth tracks on the belt and around the lower right....do not detract. Jacket made in July, 1942 by Sakowitz Bros. It is named. All buttons are there and the belt matches the tunic fabric. Sadley, the older collector did not get a photo or any detailed info about this vet. I can find nothing on the Lt. in any 101st book I have. I was able to find a statement that he died at the US Consulate in Morocco in 2000." "All metal insignia---"US" & infantry crossed rifles--- on uniform are WWII w/ proper clutches. Both French & Belgian fouraguerres are installed, CIB is sterling, one post repaired. DUC w/OLC is PB. Jump wings have a British Pin and are marked sterling, but I don't know if they are original or fake (the older collector may have replaced them). Ribbons are..."...There are 5 overseas bars on left sleeve as well as nice WWII 101st AB SSI. 3rd Army SSI on right sleeve. PB 1st Lt. bars on both shoulders." "A very nice looking, named tunic that is 100% WWII and a XXL size!!!" (END OF ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION) Some documentation on the lieutenant will be provided with the uniform. There are no bad orders or smells to the uniform. A remarkable grouping that would make an excellent addition to your military collection!
