This is an un-issued dark green webbing canvas case for a spare barrel for the Bren light machine gun. The Bren Gun has now been replaced by the British Army but was made famous and much loved by many soldiers in WWII. The case was designed to take a spare barrel and the cleaning a nd stripping material and tools needed to service the Bren in the field. It has a carrying handle on the side as well as a carrying shoulder strap. There are five different size pockets on front for the tools etc. and all openings close with brass fittings. It is approx. 26” long and has faint letters and numbers with the WD broad arrow on the inside of flap. The case is approx. 15cm across at the opening top, going down to approx. 7cm at the narrow end, see photo. A rare find in un-issued condition see photo. Age unknown but probably mid 1940 - 50's.
