This is an ORIGINAL WWII Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) enlisted man's side cap. Many "foreign" pilots from America, Poland, Australia, France, etc. volunteered to defend the British isles from the German Luftwaffe during the famous "Battle of Britain." Like the British RAF & the German Luftwaffe, the RCAF allowed enlisted men (NCO's) to serve as fighter pilots during the war. This beautiful hat has a heavy, blue-gray wool crown & black cotton lining. It is complete with the heavy brass RCAF "King's Crown" hat badge & Brass buttons. Each button bears the image of an eagle in flight, bordered by the King's crown & the letters "RCAF." The brass badge & buttons, both, have a nice patina & have not been cleaned or polished. This hat also comes with its original, removeable white peak. This white-colored peak was worn by RCAF pilots while they were in training & discarded once they completed training & were assigned to their squadrons. It is interesting to note that I obtained this hat in Guthrie, Oklahoma. During the war, American, Canadian & Australian pilots received some of their flight training, flying PT17 & AT6 training aircraft, at the Darr School of Aeronautics, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. The interior lining bears a faded stamp with the following maker's mark, size & date of manufacture: NATIONAL HAT MFG.Co. 7 1/8 1941 Considering read more
