This is an authentic Imperial Japanese Marine’s YOSEGAKI good luck battle flag. It appears to be made of natural silk. Below my info is the story that my friend, the US Marine wrote about his experience on Iwo Jima when he captured this flag. I refer to him as “Pfc X”. He gives further explanation and description of the flag in his story below written in Italics. Japanese soldiers often carried a couple of mementoes to bring them good luck. Most common, was an autographed flag. These were called hinomaru yosegaki in Japanese. It is EXCELLENT CONDITION with NO holes and only minor soiling. It measures 32x26 inches It has been folded in the tissue paper it was kept in. It can be ironed for framing. See how neatly it is signed with many, good luck signatures from friends and/or fellow marines. It's an unusual piece of history and absolutely guaranteed original. I know… he got it himself in 1945!
