Up for auction is the original front section of the Chicago Daily Tribune ("The World's Greatest Newspaper") for June 7, 1944, the day after the invasion of Europe on the French coastline by Allied Forces under the direction of Gen. Dwight Eisenhower. This section of the newspaper, which includes 20 pages, is loaded with articles about the war. The headline states, "Fight on 100 Mile Front: Allies Widen Beachheads in France." The subheadings state; "Put New Troops Across Strait; Battle at Caen" and "11,000 Planes, 4,000 Warships Crack German Shore Defenses; Meet Little Opposition in Air." The newspaper includes a map, a full page of pictures, two editorial cartoons, and many articles pertaining to the invasion.
