This auction is for an excellent Eickhorn WWII German Army dove head officer's sword. This is the legendary Field Marshall series Nr. 1716 "Roon" as shown on page 80 of the John Angolia book, "Swords of Germany 1900/1945." It has the optional Army pattern eagle on its langet. A crisp Eickhorn Solingen squirrel trademark adorns the blade. The blade HAS NOT been sharpened. This is the top of the line Eickhorn Army sword! I have read that, at 18.65DM, the "Roon" was the most expensive army sword sold by Eickhorn during the war, probably due to the extensive hand chiseling involved in the hilt decoration. No one makes them better than Eickhorn! The hand guard is ever so slightly bent. Gilding is about 50 to 60 percent. Very nice highly desirable sword! This is an original WWII piece that has not been tampered with. It is 100% guaranteed to be authentic as my father brought it home from the war. I have had this since he passed away in 1990. As a veteran of the 5 th US Army, he was in the Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno & North Apennines campaigns that drove the Germans out of Italy . Nice Eickhorn "Roon" swords are scarce as hens teeth, so don't let this one get away. Its overall read more
