This auction is for an authentic pair of WWII German U-Boat Binoculars. These binoculars are special purpose binoculars issued to U-Boat crews from 1943-1945. Earlier models did not have the textured brownish-green coating. We attempted to get a clear picture of the identification marks under the right rubber cap but our camera is not quite that good. The stamped markings indicate 7x50 with serial number 39699, and underneath that the letters blc. The zeiss blc 7x50 Ubootglas came in two paint finishes, textured and smooth. This pair being with the textured finish. This is a cast alloy body that weighs over 3 1/2 lbs. Please refer to all photos to determine condition as we provided all angle shots. As seen in all photos, wear and rubber cracking and please note the photo with the pencil which indicates a complete crack. The binoculars, however, are intact and very presentable. The glass is in good condition with no cracks or heavy scratches. There are numerous web sites for reference to these binoculars. These are guaranteed 100% original U-Boat binoculars.

In response to a question, I researched the collimation of binoculars. I am not an expert in optics so I will describe to my best ability the condition of the optics. Through naked eyes I can not see any scratches on any of the lens. When you look through the larger end of each barrel using an office lit room you can see what appears to be dried blotches of possibly condensation on the inner side of both larger lens. When you look deeper through both barrels one side is clear. The other side appears to have a strip of a dirty river flow effect right through the center of the inner section of the small lens, or if this is a prism of some sort that I am seeing. To a novice it appears to be something that can be cleaned by an expert in optics. Other than that I can see no damage to the inner optics. When looking through the binoculars in an out door setting the view is clear and crisp with a ever slight haze effect on the one side that has the strip of a dirty river flow effect on the inner lens or prism. As for the little I know about collimation ,I will understand this to mean sight alignment between both barrels. While looking through the binoculars at a specific object I see an aligned view of that object through both eyes. As I slowly pull the binoculars away from my face that same view stays aligned but picture view gets constantly smaller. This is an amateur's attempt to describe the condition of optics.
