Presented for the collector of WWII German bayonets is this wonderful specimen of the K98k bayonet in an exceptionally scarce commercially-marked and police-proofed configuration. The bayonet itself is marked on the ricasso with the "ACS" and scales logo. This is one of the commercial marks of the Alexander Coppel firm in Solingen, Germany alternatively known as "Alcoso." The bayonet is unnumbered (i. e. unnumbered at the factory) as is correct for these scarce police-proofed bayonets and is dimensionally the same as the standard K98k bayonet. The spine of the blade bears a very sharply struck "Eagle D" German police proof/acceptance mark near the crossguard. The pommel bears a unit-applied inventory or rack number of "928." The bayonet retains a very conservative 98% of the original bluing throughout with the only wear being on the high points of the crossguard and catch button. The blade rates close to 100% in my opinion. It possesses a high polish and a very deep plum/black luster when observed under an intense light. The original walnut handle scales are unvarnished and the flash guard bears an unusual checkered pattern that was effected in a rolling mill of some sort. I have seen this exact feature only on other ACS-manufactured and "Eagle D"-proofed bayonets. This bayonet SHOULD have an unnumbered "ACS" marked scabbard; however, read more
