The Knight's Cross was a highly distinguished medal recognizing acts of valor within the German armed forces. Unlike the Iron Cross, it was worn on the neck with a striped black, white and red ribbon attached. On June 3rd, 1940 Hitler signed a decree announcing the introduction of additional grades to the Iron Cross series of awards. The first of these awards was the Oak Leaves clasp, which rewarded further acts of distinction to recipients of the Knight's Cross . The design was simple and based on the leaves used on the Imperial "Pour Le Mérite", with one large central leaf superimposed over two lower leaves. Criteria for the Oak Leaves was based on continued excellence in command, bravery of the highest order or actions of significant importance. Recommendations for the Oak Leaves were formally presented by the Commanding Officer and reviewed all the way to Hitler, who closely scrutinized each one and very often presented the award personally. __________________________________________________ NO RESERVE!!!
