Hand carved replica U~boat Emblems... These unofficial reproduction U~Boat Emblems are part of a rather large collection of emblems hand carved (and very detailed) by one talented individual using crude hand tools (a saw, pen knife, and file) as the way most of the originals were made. These are mounted on a sturdy piece of white cardboard, but can easily be removed to display. Emblems originally were not made for selling or any other commercial purposes. These designs were taken from photos and other published sources. U~Boat crews were very small, usually under 50, and losses were high, around 70%, the passage of time compound by the fact so much hand work make the claim, or demand of, to pin point authenticity, unrealistic. Even photos of the same members of a crew reveal striking differences in size, right facing vs. left facing etc. Each Emblem is at least 2" buy 1"..most are bigger.
